Over the centuries, there have been plenty of situations that threaten the youth: dropping out of education; the lack of access to a decent education; coming from poverty-stricken families; teenage pregnancies; the ensuing impact that all of this has on school life, work life and emotions… And these are only some of them.
Furthermore, the younger generations are now also worrying about the economic situation that has taken over the country and the evident impact that it is having in all areas of society, such as the increase in poverty, unemployment, social insecurity, drug addiction and the deterioration of the environments around them.
The youth of today think that Costa Rica has lost many of its moral values that go hand in hand with one another: those of respect and human dignity with the relationships with other people around you. Some of the features that support this situation are to do with delinquency – the copious number of foreign cultures, vices and addictions, divorces, suicides, unwanted teenage pregnancies and the break down of family units. These situations are happening right in front of the adult population who cannot and do not see the variety of qualities and values that the youth of today show.
